The Caparroso mill has existed since the XI century and is a key part of the history of the Pamplona. It used to be known as the Fulling house and Mill of San Miguel. Originally, it consisted of a tower and a flume narrower than the present one. In 1286, it became the property of the Hospital of San Miguel and the original construction was extended to include a lockhouse. At the end of the XV century, it was redesigned by Pedro de Caparroso, responsible for the most significant extension to the complex: the building was made larger and was used as a fulling and conventional mill until the mid-XIX century. It was later adapted to work as part of a foundry and, in the XX century, became part of an electric power station, before becoming the property of Pamplona City Council a few years ago. It is planned to be used as the base of the local Canoeing School.
The Caparroso dam was first built in the XI century, although major rebuilding work took place between the XV and XVI centuries. It is made of stone and measures seventy metres long by two metres high. During wars, water was diverted from this dam to fill the moat around the city walls.
